SMITHFIELD, R.I. – ADI Energy, an energy services provider, executed an $8.6 million energy services agreement with Fitchburg State University and the Department of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance aimed at reducing the campus energy consumption. This project will be financed over a 20-year term and will provide a $9 million savings to the Commonwealth of MA. This project is designed to improve the learning environment for the students by installing new lighting fixtures, new classroom unit ventilators, better air conditioning filtering systems and building weatherization.
Overall, this project will greatly increase the lifespan of the campus infrastructure. The scope of work will include the installation of a 400-ton electric chiller plant, upgrade and conversion of Central Plant boilers from oil to natural gas, installation of a campus-wide building automation system that will control virtually every piece of mechanical equipment on campus. This project schedule is fast-tracked to ensure the timely installation of the new chiller plant for next spring and includes the emptying and cleaning of 40,000-gallon underground oil storage tanks as part of the Boiler Plant renovation.
